MoneyMinder Electronic Manual

If you have ever had the need to balance a checkbook or savings account, MoneyMinder is the software for you! With MoneyMinder, you will never have to use the transaction register again. You can record your checks, deposits, withdrawals and MORE! It does all the math for you so put that pocket calculator away. You can keep track of all of your different accounts in one application.

Using MoneyMinder

Setting-Up Your Account

To create a new account, tap the New button in the Account Listing form. You will be prompted to enter your account information. After completing this form, it will take you to the Transaction Listing form of the new account. You can enter transactions or even edit account information in this form. To return to your account listing, pull down the Account menu then select List Accounts.

Recording Your Transactions
Once you are inside your account, you can record the checks you write, your deposits, and your withdrawals. All transaction forms possess a feature called auto-fill, which minimizes your data entry by automagically filling in common fields for you after you enter enough characters to distinguish them. For example, if you often write checks to 'ThatLoan Co.', MoneyMinder will fill in the Payee field for you after you enter your first 'T'! It's that quick and easy!

Check - Tap on the Check button to record a check. MoneyMinder keeps track of the most recent check number you wrote. It also has the Auto-Fill feature. MoneyMinder remembers frequently used words, and once you start writing the first few letters, Auto-Fill fills in the rest for you.

Deposit - Tap on the Deposit button to enter a deposit. Because different banks provide different services, we have made this flexible enough to handle any transactions that would credit your account. For example, you can record the interest on interest bearing accounts as a deposit and in the Note section of the transaction, say that it is an Interest Payment.

Withdraw - Tap on the Withdraw button to record a withdrawal. Any transaction that would debit your account can be entered as a withdrawal. Examples are debit card transactions, funds transfer over the phone, or any other specialized services that your bank provides. You keep track of this kind of specialized service through the Note section of the transaction.

Transfer - Recording transfers between your MoneyMinder accounts is quick and easy. To do so, pull down the Account menu and select Transfer. Input the date and amount then select the account you wish to transfer the funds into. Tap on Done and you're done!

Posted Balance vs. Expected Balance

MoneyMinder keeps track of two balances for you: your expected balance and your posted balance. Your expected balance is what you think you should have in your account based on all the deposits and withdrawals you made and all the checks you wrote. Your posted balance is what the bank says you currently have based on their records. Of course, these are rarely the same, and that's why check balancing is associated with migraine headaches. MoneyMinder comes to the rescue! In all your transactions, there is a Posted check box. Once that transaction is posted, check that box and the transaction amount is automatically subtracted from your posted balance.

Exporting To and Importing From A File

MoneyMinder can export your account to the Memo Pad for use in a a desktop financial appplication, a spreadsheet, or another application. To export an account, open the account and from the menu, choose Account and then select Export. From there, you can choose between the QIF format (useful for working with popular desktop financial applications like Quicken and Microsoft Money) or CSV format (a '|' delimited file suitable for use with spreadsheets or for importing back into MoneyMinder). You can also narrow down your targeted output by picking which transactions are to be exported. The resulting data can be found in your Memo Pad's Unfiled category.

To import CSV-formatted data that you have previously exported to your Memo Pad, go to the Account Listing form. From the menu, choose Account and then select Import. A list of valid MoneyMinder accounts will be displayed and you simply choose which one you wish to import.

Purging Your Account

MoneyMinder allows you to purge older information while retaining that purged amount in your account balance. To do so, simply open up your account, pull down the Account menu, and select Purge. From there you can choose how old you wish your purged transactions to be. You can also tell MoneyMinder to only purge transactions that have been posted.

If you close your account and you don't want to keep that account's data anymore, simply check the Remove the entire account box and tap Done. As a precaution, you will be prompted to verify that this is something you really want to do. If you confirm, this account and all its transactions will be deleted from MoneyMinder.

Security

MoneyMinder allows you to protect your sensitive account information from prying eyes by providing the ability to require a PIN number to be entered every time you startup the application. To set a PIN number, go to your account listing then pull down the Account menu and select PIN Number. From there, simply tap in your desired PIN and finish by tapping Ok. If you would like to later clear your PIN number, tap the Clr button and answer Yes to the confirmation.
